Where There is a Will - 9.  Hare Krishna!

(My Guindy Classmate,) Dr. K. S. Rajagopalan introduces Mr. Krishnaswamy of Wheaton, Illinois to me. Mr. Krishnaswamy is a Civil Engineering graduate from Coimbatore, one year junior to me, now working for Seargent and Lundy. I get in touch with him and he comes to visit me one evening. He also shows the Hare Krishna Center close to campus. I start going to their temple every Sunday. There is a sumptuous and free vegetarian meal after the Bhajan. I was a Krishna devotee every Sunday evening until I left Evanston!

Y.M.C.A at this building was closed in 1969. Later it was housing the Hare Krishna Center of Evanston.  This is where I meet more people from India and also have sumptuous vegetarian food every Sunday. *************** At the Hare Krishna centre I get to meet other people from India as well as some NU students. One of the gentlemen is doing business as a travelling agent beside other works. I ask him "I want to get my wife here - can you help me?"

"What are you talking about? I am sorry. Why do you say such things to me?"

"I just wanted to see if you can help me get the ticket for my wife and children to fly in from India - you said you are a travel agent!" I realise the cause of his getting upset - I should have said "I want to bring my wife...." instead of "...get my wife..."
